Delivery worker dies after pickup crashes into Rayong restaurant

A delivery worker tragically lost his life after his pickup truck swerved and crashed into a tree before ploughing through a made-to-order restaurant in Rayong. The incident occurred at 8am yesterday, October 1, and the shop owner recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the crash.

The accident took place at a made-to-order restaurant in Ban Nong Wa on Khao Din-Khao Chamao Road, Thung Khwai Kin, Klaeng district, Rayong province. Police Lieutenant Chaiwat Rodma of Klaeng Police Station received the report and quickly proceeded to the scene with medical personnel from Klaeng Hospital and rescue volunteers from Phutthasat Songkroh Foundation.

Upon arrival, police discovered the pickup truck, a Chevrolet with Rayong license plates, had crashed through the restaurant, causing significant damage. The vehicle had uprooted a tree, and the restaurant’s roof was heavily damaged, with the front of the truck completely wrecked.

The driver, identified as 24 year old Satayu, was found pinned behind the steering wheel. Rescuers extracted him and attempted CPR but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was transported to Klaeng Hospital for an autopsy. The deceased had suffered broken legs, knee injuries, and severe chest trauma, which ultimately led to his death.

A senior citizen inside the restaurant sustained minor injuries while escaping the crash. Emergency responders provided first aid, and the injured individual was declared safe.

Witnesses reported that they saw the truck parked in the middle of the road approximately 5 kilometres from the crash site. As their vehicle approached, the pickup suddenly accelerated, emitting a loud noise and thick black smoke, which obscured visibility.

The truck then sped away, swerving erratically before ultimately crashing. A dashboard camera captured footage of the incident.

The restaurant owner, still visibly shaken, described the terrifying moments when the truck sped towards the establishment. She saw the vehicle approaching at high speed and immediately shouted for her mother to run.

The truck hit a tree before crashing into the restaurant, creating a deafening noise. The owner expressed her relief that her mother only sustained minor injuries and managed to escape in time, reported KhaoSod.

Police have collected evidence and assessed the damage to proceed with legal procedures. The family of the deceased has been informed of the incident.
