Diplomat in Thailand tests positive for Covid-19 after contact with Hungarian foreign minister

A Hungarian diplomat who resides in Thailand recently tested positive for Covid-19 in an apparent local transmission. The 53 year old diplomat had been in close contact with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto who tested positive for Covid-19 during a visit to Bangkok.

Peter arrived in Bangkok on November 3 and left the following day after his diagnosis. The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration did not identify the diplomat infected with the virus. The CCSA says the diplomat is asymptomatic and was admitted to Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in Nonthaburi for treatment.

The CCSA reports 3 new Covid-19 cases were detected in quarantine. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases is raised to 3,844 with 3,670 recoveries and 60 deaths. 114 people are currently receiving medical treatment for the coronavirus.

  • A 50 year old American man travelling from the United States with a layover in Dubai tested positive for Covid-19. He arrived on October 31 and tested positive 4 days later while at an alternative state quarantine hotel in Bangkok.
  • A 38 year old Indian man travelling from India tested positive for Covid-19. He arrived on November 7 and tested positive later that day at an alternative state quarantine hotel in Bangkok. He reported having a high fever.
  • A 27 year old Thai woman travelling from Sweden with a layover in Qatar tested positive for Covid-19. She arrived on November 8 and tested positive later that day while at an alternative state quarantine facility in Bangkok.
