Breaking News: No tsunami warning after Phang Nga earthquake
PHUKET: No tsunami warning was issued following an earthquake off Koh Yai Yai, east of Phuket, this afternoon.
The earthquake, which registered 4.0 on the Richter magnitude scale, was centered in Koh Yao district, at about a depth of two kilometers, explained Santhawat Riwleung, chief of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Phuket office.
“Many people in Phuket felt the quake at about 1:02pm. However, there is no reason to panic,” Mr Santhawat told the Phuket Gazette.
“The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) is carefully monitoring the situation, but there are no indications of a tsunami.”
Mr Santhawat confirmed that relevant departments would continue to monitor any developments and update the public as necessary.
