Worms found in famous local canned fish tin
Phuket woman Sarantip Chaeton found worms in a tin of canned fish. Her post on social media has become viral with more than 124,544 shares.
She revealed on December 9 that she bought the canned fish on December 8. Her sister bought three cans which all mention an expiry date of October 16, 2020, with the manufacturing date being October 16, 2017.
The first two cans were normal but when she opened the third one she found a lot of worms inside. She initially thought they were fishbone but then they started to move, which confirmed to her that they were parasites.
She says that her family of thirteen really like to eat can fish and always buy a big pack to store at home, especially this brand. She says this incident will make the whole family stop eating canned fish.
“I posted on social media not because I wanted to shame the brand. What I wanted to do is warn others who like to eat canned fish just like my family to be careful.
“A person claiming to be from Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) told me that the OCPB had contacted the brand and the brand had admitted that it was really parasites and will send their staff to take the can to check what happened,” she said.
However, after contacting the Phuket Office of the Consumer Protection Board, the office director insisted that the office hasn’t heard about the incident. They say, “if the consumer wants to report about the dodgy canned fish, she has to bring the evidence to the office.”
