A 21 year old Spanish woman from Galdakao in the Basque region, narrowly averted a choking to death. It occurred while consuming a chicken wing at home, resulting in a piece of meat lodged in her throat. She was at home with her wheelchair-bound father, who was incapacitated due to an old injury, leaving her to fend for herself during the emergency.

Hesia quickly dashed to the bathroom and, in a desperate bid, used an eight-inch long toothbrush to dislodge the stuck chicken piece. Holding the toothbrush by its bristles, she used the handle to push down her throat. She succeeded in her attempt but not only did the chicken piece dislodge, the toothbrush went down her stomach too, reported the NY Post.

Despite this unusual occurrence, Hesia didn’t experience any immediate discomfort from swallowing the toothbrush handle. She later visited the hospital, where the medical team was stunned to see the X-ray image. Following this, they administered anaesthesia and spent approximately 40 minutes extracting the toothbrush from her stomach through her food pipe, using a lasso technique.

Upon regaining consciousness, Hesia found the toothbrush placed on the bedside table.

“I was extremely relieved to be able to breathe again.”

In related news, a horrifying situation unfolded for a 67 year old retired teacher who nearly lost his life after his false teeth got lodged in his throat.

Following a meal, the retired teacher noticed an unexpected denture obstruction in his throat while swallowing water to take his after-meal medication. Unaware initially that it was his decade-old lower denture that was causing the discomfort, he attempted to dislodge the obstruction by drinking more water.

When that failed, he sought help from his wife and children. Upon noticing the absence of his false teeth, it was deduced that the missing lower denture was the cause of the obstruction. To read more click HERE
