PSD scholars to receive RM100 monthly allowance boost from July

An additional RM100 monthly allowance will be granted to students on Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships starting in July, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The announcement was made during a dialogue session with scholars from around Malaysia at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Bangi. The event aimed to identify public issues and explore ways the government could help address them.

During the session, a participant inquired whether the government planned to increase allowances for scholarship holders. In response, Anwar announced the RM100 per month increase and joked that if they had asked for RM250, it would have been considered, but perhaps not approved by the Cabinet.

Parents of PSD scholars living abroad have recently expressed concerns about rising costs and the weakening ringgit, urging the government to provide more aid to students. Anwar acknowledged these concerns and assured that the government is working to resolve the issue.

“I hear all your frustrations, so for now, as I work hard to fix the country from years of corruption, I haven’t forgotten you all, so this extra money we will begin to disperse it from July onwards. Personally, I hope by the third week of June, we can give you the extra RM100,” he said.

PSD scholars’ allowances are determined by the location, type, and duration of their studies.
