Malaysia opens seven clinics to tackle male fertility issues
In an effort to address fertility issues among men, Malaysia’s Health Ministry has established seven specialised clinics focusing on men’s health and well-being. The clinics include three subfertility clinics in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang, and four Nur Sejahtera Clinics (KNS) in Jalan Raja Laut, Melaka, Dungun, and Sarawak.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Raj Munni Sabu stated that these clinics were part of the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) initiatives to tackle male fertility problems in the country. The subfertility clinics offer services such as Insemination Procedure (IUI), In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
Raj Munni Sabu explained during a question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat that the government also organised advocacy programmes and promotions, as well as provided tax exemptions for fertility treatments of up to US$6,000 and subsidies for civil servants’ fertility treatments.
She highlighted that the government’s goal of assisting couples, particularly those in the M40 and B40 groups, in overcoming infertility issues through the LPPKN Subfertility service had been achieved. The response to the LPPKN’s subfertility service, which was introduced in 1979, has been positive, with 40,576 new cases and 262,657 repeat cases recorded as of last April.
