An unexpected incident in a Chinese restaurant sparked a heated online debate where closed-circuit camera footage captured a man being forcefully kissed by a female stranger.

The man appears visibly confused after the incident, while the woman calmly leaves the scene. The woman’s behaviour has been widely condemned online, with many believing she has sexually violated the man.

The incident took place on July 31 at around 7.45am. The CCTV footage shows a man dressed in a short-sleeved white shirt, sitting facing a wall and having his breakfast. A short-haired woman then walks into the restaurant, approaches the man, and puts her hand on his shoulder, before leaning down to kiss his surprised face.

The man in the video explained that he thought it was one of his co-workers touching his shoulder as several of them were having breakfast in the restaurant at the time. But when he was suddenly kissed and turned around to look, he was shocked and utterly confused to see a stranger so close to him. He has since reported the incident to the police.

Later reports suggest that the police in Xiamen have begun an investigation and found that the woman who harassed the good-looking young man may have a mental disability and other issues. The peculiar incident is still under further investigation.

Netizens have expressed their views on this woman’s behaviour, believing it to be a sexual violation against the man and something that should not be tolerated. They emphasise the importance of personal freedom and respect for others.

Public reaction

They argue that if the roles were reversed and a man had done this to a woman, the public reaction would likely be different and probably attract more criticism and controversy, reported Sanook.

This incident has also prompted people to reflect on social phenomena. Nowadays, there is an increasing amount of content vying for attention in the online world.

People are always seeking and following new and interesting stories or things deemed funny. However, some may cross the line, invading others’ privacy or even behaving inappropriately, neglecting the essential issue of respecting personal space.

In personal interactions, both men and women should respect each other’s private space. Invading someone else’s privacy or forcing closeness of any form is unacceptable. We must protect the dignity and rights of everyone equally, recognising the importance of personal space, respecting others’ behaviour and thoughts, and creating a positive and wholesome cultural and social environment.
