The largest investor summit for hotel owners and investors in south east asia kicks off in Bangkok May 14 & 15. The event is being held at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit.
At this stage the event has 220 registered delegates from 15 countries, representing 60 leading hotels.
Organisers say the event will adopt a roundtable format to allow delegates guests to grapple with the issues close at hand with owners, entrepreneurs and startups seeking capital and investment in the south east asian hospitality market.
SEAHIS organiser Simon Allison says the Middle East is seeing a lot of new demand, but already has vast amounts of supply, stoking up problems; Europe and the USA are stable with adequate demand and relatively few new hotels being built. Only in Southeast Asia is there not only a strong pipeline of new hotels and serviced apartments, but also surging demand.
“It is an exciting time to be in Southeast Asia and it is great to be back in the heart of the world’s most dynamic hotel region, the only place where significant new supply is also being backed by lots of new demand.”
C9Hotelworks‘ MD Bill Barnett says, “Thailand’s hotel investment is heading towards more diverse products like glamping, yoga and meditation retreats, all-inclusive resorts, aged care and many others. SEAHIS is a great opportunity for new hotel investments or even exiting ones, to network and see new concepts, what areas in the country are fast-tracking and generally getting the feel of the market.”
SEAHIS is organised by HOFTEL, the global hotel owners’ alliance. The conference says it’s addressing the latest market trends, the rise of online travel agents, the challenges faced by markets seeing massive new supply such as Vietnam and challenging logistics facing the Philippines.
Among the 82 confirmed speakers, more than half are new faces to SEAHIS including Brian Williams, deputy chairman of Swire Hotels; Suchad Chiaranussati, founder of SC Capital; Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Taj Hotels; Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels; Olivier Do Ngoc, managing partner of Dynasty Investments; Siew Kim Beh, CEO of Ascott Residence Trust Management, Markland Blaiklock, deputy CEO of Centara and David Hamblin, VP Lodging Partner Services and Expedia.
