Search continues for man who jumped from Sarasin Bridge in Phuket

The search for a Phuket man who jumped off the Sarasin Bridge yesterday is continuing.

Kokkloi Police in Phang Nga were notified of the man who jumped from the Sarasin Bridge (southbound) yesterday early afternoon.

Police and rescue workers arrived to find his Honda motorbike parked on the side of the bridge road. Nearby they found a pair of shoes.

Rescue divers have been searching since yesterday. They wrapped up their searches at 6pm last night and started again this morning.

Kokkloi Police Chief Col Jeerask Siamsak says, “The CCTV footage shows that the man sat on the edge of the bridge before jumping into the sea below.”

The man has been identified by his father as 37 year old Winai Jokthong. Winai has has been diagnosed with a mental illness in the past. He left his house in Rassada at 10am yesterday.

His sister told police that he wrote a letter saying that his family didn’t understand him.

The search for Mr Winai has continued.
