Gambling tops September crime statistics
PHUKET: Gambling topped the latest crime statistics released by Phuket Provincial Police, with 230 arrests made in September.
In second place, 102 people arrested were arrested for drug-related cases, of which 63 involved ya bah (methamphetamine) with a total of 3,329 pills seized.
Seventeen people were arrested for the use of cannabis, with 19.45 grams confiscated. There were 11 arrests for inhalant abuse and six for possession of krathom (an indigenous Thai plant that acts as a mild stimulant) with 450 leaves seized by police.
Three people were arrested for possession of “ice” (crystal methamphetamine) with four grams seized. Two people were arrested for possession of cocaine with eight grams of the white powder seized.
There were 109 cases of theft reported, nine involving motorcycles, with arrests made in 73 of the cases.
Three murders and four attempted murders were reported in September, with five cases “solved”. Fifteen reports of assault resulted in 11 arrests.
Sixty-one people were arrested for prostitution and 18 for possession of unlicensed firearms.
Six people was arrested in September for possession or distribution of pornography.
