Fight breaks out between 2 foreign men on Bangla Road in Phuket
Two foreign men engaged in a fight using Muay Thai and wrestling skills on Bangla Road in Phuket on December 25, drawing hilarious comments. Some Thai netizens remarked that it was just another typical day on Bangla Road.
A video of the altercation between the two men was shared yesterday, December 26, on the Facebook pages of Phuket Times and Phuket Hotnews. One of the foreign men was dressed in long black trousers, while the other wore Muay Thai boxer shorts.
In the video, the man in long trousers appeared to possess superior fighting skills despite his rival’s attire. He repeatedly punched the man in boxer shorts, threw him to the ground, and continued his assault with more punches.
Both Thai and foreign witnesses did not intervene but instead formed a makeshift ring around the fighters and even cheered them on. Some filmed the unofficial fight, while others captured it in photographs.
At the end of the video, the man in black trousers offered his opponent an opportunity to stand up and fight for another round. However, the man in Muay Thai shorts seemed to concede defeat, prompting the victor to walk away from the scene.
In addition to the lack of intervention from bystanders, no police officers or administrative officials overseeing Bangla Road were seen attempting to stop the fight. Fortunately, the altercation did not escalate further.
Many Thai netizens, particularly locals working in entertainment venues along Bangla Road, shared their thoughts in the comments section. They described such incidents as commonplace and left remarks such as…
“We would feel too lonely if Bangla Road didn’t give us a boxing show. It’s entertaining!”
“This is Phuket, a world-class tourist destination!”
“Boxing shorts mean nothing. Some foreigners train for a few months and think they’re skilled.”
“Muay Thai, soft power!”
Similar incidents on Bangla Road have made headlines before. Two weeks ago, a Thai taxi driver and a foreign tourist were filmed fighting. The taxi driver claimed he was avenging his uncle, who had been shoved twice by the tourist. Authorities have yet to identify the foreigner involved in the altercation.
In a more violent incident last week, a Russian man fought with bar security guards on Bangla Road and ended up hospitalised at Patong Hospital.
