Teens injured in drive-by shooting

PHUKET CITY: Two teenagers were injured in a drive-by shooting in Rassada in the early hours of April 10.

Maj Rassada Kluengwong, Duty Inspector at Phuket City Police Station, told the Gazette that Apichai Thongsa-art, 17, and Somkuan Petsanun, 18, were sitting drinking with friends outside a house in the Saphan Ruam area in Rassada when a gang of about seven people pulled up on motorcycles and one man shot into the group.

Apichai was hit once in the pelvis and Somkuan was hit once in the pelvis and once in the back. They are now being treated at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

“The victims were well enough to give a statement and identified a man known as ‘Joe Kingkaew’ as being among their attackers,” Maj Rassada said.

“We have not yet requested an arrest warrant for Joe as the victims were not certain if he was the man who shot them. We will, however, bring him in for questioning as soon as possible.

“The victims said that they had never had any problems with the suspect. We therefore think the shooting is gang related, as gangsters are always keen to impose their authority on other groups and defend their turf, even if they have not been provoked,” he added.
