Swiss Tourist Robbed In Phuket Town

PHUKT TOWN: A Swissair pilot had his pack snatched while riding a rented motorbike in Sapan Hin yesterday. It was the second such incident to be reported to the Gazette by police in a period of three days. Mr Philipe Braun, 58, who is on holiday in Phuket with his family, told police two teenagers on a motorbike came along side him and grabbed his pack, which was in the motorbike’s front basket. He could not provide police with a detailed description of the youths. The bag contained two snorkeling masks, two swim suits, a diving watch, two beach towels, and two pairs of sunglasses, with a total value of about 5,000 baht. The police say there has been a spate of similar thefts from riders of motorbikes in Phuket in recent months. They warn tourists not to put bags or packs in the baskets of motorbikes, and not to ride alone at night or in the early hours of the morning.
