Swede dies after stabbing
PATONG: Stig Gustaf Mörk, 57, a Swede living in Patong, died on Friday morning of massive blood loss, after being stabbed the evening before. Pol Col Kokiat Wongvorachart, superintendent of Kathu police Station, said that Mr Mörk was stabbed by his girlfriend, Ranthom Namyoo, 37, from Supan Buri. Col Kokiat said that according to a confession Ranthom made to the police, she and Mr Mörk were at their home in Patong on Thursday afternoon. She asked Mr Mörk to let her take the couple’s motorcycle to go partying with her friends. An argument ensued, during which Mr Mörk told her she couldn’t go. She left anyway, and spent the afternoon drinking with her friends. She returned at 7 pm to pick up her belongings, planning to leave Mr Mörk. Another argument ensued. Mr Mörk tried to slap her, but Ranthom ran to the kitchen and grabbed an 8-inch knife. She stabbed him once in the stomach, then fled. A neighbor heard Mr Mörk calling out for help and called the police. He was rushed to Patong Hospital and then transferred to Wachira Phuket hospital. After a three-hour search, the police found and arrested Ranthom, who was hiding in a friend’s room at Jaranya Guesthouse on Sawasdeerak Rd, near the Patong police station. Mr Mörk died the next morning of severe blood loss. Col Kokiat said Ranthom had previously worked as a bar girl in Patong, but stopped working after meeting Mr Mörk about two years ago. Neither Ranthom nor Mr Mörk was working. The couple had been living off monthly payments of 25,000 baht that Mr Mörk received from the Swedish government. Ranthom is being held at Phuket Provincial Prison awaiting trial.
