Shoppers mob Central Festival mall

PHUKET CITY: Around 10,000 people are estimated to have passed through the doors of the new Central Festival Phuket (CFP) shopping centre within the first few hours of them opening.

As she took members of the press around the complex yesterday, Wanna Thamromdee, General Manager Corporate Communication for Central Retail Corporation Ltd, told the Gazette, “There must be about 10,000 people here today.”

Around 90% of the 246 shops in the centre were open for business and many are offering special opening promotions and discounts for the coming few days.

The bypass road centre will stay open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The opening was scheduled for August 12, but was postponed while more work was carried out in the food and theme restaurants section. The official opening will take place next Thursday (September 9).

Actor-singers Pornchita “Benz” Na Songkhla and Sornram “Num” Theppithak are due to take part in a stage show on Saturday at 6 pm, while there will be entertainment, including beauty demonstrations, fashion shows and games, every day until Sunday.
