Rubber vendor killed in mystery shooting
THALANG: In a crime that police have no suspect and no motive for, a man died on his way to hospital after being shot in the back while riding his motorcycle on Srisoonthorn Rd on Sunday afternoon.
About 3 pm, a local villager alerted police of a man lying on the sidewalk near the first corner of the road to Surin Beach from Heroines Monument.
Police rushed to the scene and found the man still alive but barely breathing, next to a toppled black and red Honda Wave motorcycle.
A rescue team from Kusoldharm Foundation, who arrived at the scene shortly after police, took the man to Thalang Hospital, but he died of his injuries on the way about 3:30 pm.
Police identified the man from his ID card as 31-year-old Chaiyawat Poonma, a resident of Thalang who worked as a self-employed liquid-rubber salesman.
Capt Sanit Nukong of Thalang Police told the Gazette that doctors at Thalang Hospital found two bullets in K. Chaiyawat’s body and two additional bullet wounds.
Capt Sanit admitted that police had no leads as to why Chaiyawat was killed, but the deceased’s friends would now be questioned to find out if he had any enemies. No eyewitness to the shooting have been found at this time, he added.
