Rape victim goes home
PHUKET TOWN: The Scottish rape victim, 22-year-old tourist Dawn Farmer, left Phuket yesterday for home, but police say they will stay in touch with her, and her departure will not stop them from hunting her rapist. However, Pol Lt Col Paween Pongsirin, deputy superintendent of Phuket Town Police Station, admitted that his officers are finding it hard to identify the man who raped Ms Farmer on October 3 after she accepted a lift on his motorcycle. “The main problem is that the victim remembers very few details we can follow up. But we will try our best to get him. We have Ms Farmer’s contact details and will keep her informed,” said Lt Col Paween. He is more confident of early arrests in the incident on Wednesday this week when a couple of Japanese tourists narrowly escaped rape at the hands of two illegal tour guides. Lt Col Paween said the police already know who the two would-be rapists are, and will arrest them soon. “We raided their residence yesterday, but found only an almost empty room. We believe they have run away. Later on, one of the men called and said that he would turn himself in to us, but then he failed to show up.” Investigators will continue to pursue this case, said Lt Col Paween, adding confidently, “I’m sure we will arrest them.”
