Phuket Sports: Islanders look to gulp bird nest soup

PHUKET: Following their 3-0 away loss to Airforce United last week, Phuket FC are facing the threat of relegation ahead of tonight’s high-stakes regional rivalry match against the Pattalung FC “Swiftlets”.

With 30 points after 26 matches, the Islanders are 12th in the 18-team Yamaha 1 league. Their opponents, Pattalung, in 13th place, trail the Islanders by only one point in the standings.

With five teams to be relegated after the season’s 34th and final fixture, set to conclude by the end of next month, both sides will be aiming for all three points.

Both southern sides have struggled to harness their scoring prowess, each with a -10 goal difference.

In their first meeting, back in May, the sides drew 1-1.

Kickoff for the tense, high-stakes match tonight at Surakul Stadium is set for 6:30pm.

With a high probability for rain, spectators are advised to arrive to the stadium an hour early to secure good covered seating.

Adults tickets at the gate are 80 baht, and 20 baht for children.
