Patong requests expansion of entertainment zone
PHUKET: Nightlife venue operators have requested an expansion of the Patong entertainment zone in a letter to the Ministry of Interior that also requested a change for the closing time of their bars and clubs.
The letter, which was supported by the Kathu District Office, Patong Entertainment Business Association and a number of private nightlife venue owners, was sent after a public hearing in Patong (story here).
“We have sent many letters to the Ministry of Interior asking that these changes be made,” said Weerawit Kurasombat, president of the Patong Entertainment Business Association. “This time, however, we are supported with the results of the public hearing in Patong.”
The letter requests that the entertainment zone in Phuket’s primary party town be expanded to include Soi Sensabai, a small soi off Soi Sensabai and the Patong OTOP area, which would allow bars and clubs there to register as nightclubs, Mr Weerawit said.
“We should get positive results from the ministry this time, as the documents were well prepared and backed with the results of the public hearing,” Mr Weerawit said. “Hopefully, we’ll get a reply in two or three months’ time.”
