Park Chief praises Chinese woman’s viral video

PHUKET: The Chief of Koh Phi Phi National Park said he was impressed after watching a video in which one Chinese tourist lambasts another for trying to drag driftwood off Ao Nang Beach.

Translated versions of the video (which can be seen here) went viral and are being shared by media outlets across the region and throughout China.

The woman, named Bin Bin Ji in online forums, ranted in her video about how some Chinese tourists behave in an arrogant manner when they go on vacation.

She also mentioned how one particular Chinese woman she had just encountered wanted to take a piece of wood from the beach back to China, even though tour guides told her it wasn’t allowed.

Ms Ji also stressed that tourists should follow rules in Thailand.

Park Chief Sarayuth Tanthien said the complaints of the video’s author cue into some widespread Thai sentiments regarding Chinese tourists in general.

“We’ve been working hard on enforcing current regulations, posting signs and holding tour guides accountable,” Chief Sarayuth said. “They’re the ones who need to be strict with tourists trying to feed fish and take coral. Due to our latest efforts, we’ve seen a substantial decrease in such illegal activities.”

“This clip helps show the improvement of Chinese tourists’ behavior,” he said. “It also helps to make Thai people less negative about them. We really appreciate what this lady is saying,” he said.
