Jewelry thieves net B1m from Kamala home

KAMALA: Jewelry and cash worth about 1 million baht were stolen from a Kamala house on the night of January 26 while the French owners – a couple in their 60s – were in Patong. The couple, named by police as Mr and Mrs Gerard Bonnaval, left their home to go to their business in Patong at 7:30 pm and returned about 1 am to find a wooden door at the rear of the property had been forced. Ten pieces of jewelry – the bulk of the stolen possessions – were missing from a safe deposit box. The Superintendent of Kathu Police Station, Pol Col Chalit Thintani, told the Gazette that the two-story house, although set amid rubber trees, was not isolated from neighboring properties. He suggested that those responsible may have been from the area as they seemed to know both the property and the schedule of the owners.
