Gov presents money to Phi Phi boat crash victim’s family

PHUKET: The Phuket governor yesterday met with the family of one of the deceased victims of a Phi Phi boat collision to present them with money on behalf of the boat insurance company.
Two tourists were killed and about 20 injured when two speed boats loaded with tourists collided near Phi Phi on June 8 (story here).
Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada presented the family with 100,000 baht on behalf of the insurance company.
The reason for his involvement on behalf of the insurer was unclear.
The families of the deceased will also receive an additional 2 million baht each. The amount will be transferred to the other victim’s family, as they could not travel to Thailand to receive it.
One of the injured passengers still remains under medical care at Vachira Phuket Hospital, while the others have been discharged.
