Gamblers top list of arrests
PHUKET: Gamblers topped arrests in Phuket between August 1 and 26, Phuket Provincial Police have announced. A total of 176 people were arrested on charges related to gambling during the period. Following a long way behind, were 121 illegal workers and 84 people nabbed on narcotics charges. This figure excluded ya bah busts, which netted 30 miscreants and 578½ pills. Two people were arrested for murder; one for manslaughter; one for attempted murder; two for rape; and 12 for wounding. Fifty one people were arrested on prostitution charges, while eight were held for illegal possession of firearms. A total of 22 people were arrested for theft, including four for stealing motorcycles. One case of car theft was reported, but no arrest was made during the period covered by the statistics. Police also recorded 60 road accidents, with six people killed and 59 injured.
