Fried chicken vendor is latest Phuket road fatality | Thaiger

PHUKET: A fried chicken vendor was killed instantly last night in Kathu when his motorbike was struck by another traveling at high speed.

Thung Thong Police were notified of the accident at 8:10pm.

Investigations Inspector Chaowalit Petch-sribia rushed to the scene at the entrance to Soi Boon-erb, a well-known traffic danger spot at the base of Patong Hill.

Accompanied by Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers and Patong Hospital medical staff, police found a large crowd gathered around the remains of 35-year-old Somjai Senchoom

Mr Somjai, who was not wearing a helmet, died instantly of massive head trauma in the high-speed collision with the other motorbike.

Mr Somjai, who worked selling fried chicken in front of Banzaan market in Patong, was listed as a resident of Khao Chaison District, Phatthalung. His crumpled Yamaha Fino was found a few meters from the body.

Police found the other vehicle involved in the collision, a Honda Click, about 30 meters away. There was no sign of the driver. Police expect he was rushed to hospital for treatment of injuries.

The Click bore a Phatthalung license plate, indicating that both parties to the fatal crash may come from the same province.

Police will check the vehicle’s registration to try and locate the driver, described by witnesses as a young male.

Rescue workers took Mr Somjai’s remains to Patong Hospital for examination and storage until they can be claimed by relatives.
