FC Phuket through to round two of Toyota Football League Cup

PHUKET: A single goal advanced FC Phuket to the Toyota League Cup second round, defeating their lower league opponents Thanyaburi FC in Pathum Thani on Saturday.

Having posted two wins in three games and accruing 12 goals in the process, Phuket’s coach Sompong Watana portrayed confidence in his pre-match comments.

“Our first [Toyota League Cup] match with Thanyaburi United is not too daunting, but we will not underestimate them in the slightest as they are the home side. We had no issues deciding what formation to use and all starting and substitute players are ready to give their fullest. We believe we will be able to make it into the next round,” he said.

An unconvincing 1-0 win may give Sompong pause to choose his words more carefully in future references to teams tagged as the “underdog”.
