Cyclists head to Phuket

PHUKET: THE final stage of this year’s cycling event, the “Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Tour of Thailand”, will be held here in Phuket.

Lt Gen Decha Hemkasri, secretary general of the Thai Cycling Association, under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty The King said:

“The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Tour of Thailand will be held from April 1-10 [in order] to celebrate Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn 58th birthday, on April 2.”

“The men’s event will feature 25 international teams (including T-Thailand and T-All Star from Thailand) on April 1-6.

The cyclists will start from Suphanburi then head to Hua-Hin (Prachuap Khiri Khan), Chumphon, Ranong, Phang-Nga and finish in Phuket, covering a distance of [approximately] 999 kilometers” he added.

“The women’s event will feature 15 international teams (including T-Thailand and T-All Star from Thailand) on April 8-10 covering a course Phuket – Phang Nga – Phuket, which is 299 kilometers.”

The competition aims to improve the cycling skills of those taking part and to also promote tourism.

Prize money for the event will total 1.5 million baht.
