PHUKET CITY: This year’s Children’s Day falls on January 10 – tomorrow – with activities for the whole family all around the island.

The Phuket City municipality has arranged a host of events to take place at the Municipal Youth Health Center at Saphan Hin. Local schools and parents’ associations will have their own tents, where presents, sweets, ice cream and fruit will be handed out.

There will also be a radio-controlled plane and car display, a traffic-control demonstration, a dog show, an exhibition of marine animals, stage performances from local school children, an artillery display by the Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet, balloon animals and a variety of games.

Phuket Rajabaht University will offer free ice cream all day from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Each faculty will hold special activities and, as in years past, there will be a football competition, dancing and a wide variety of exhibitions, games and contests.

Bangkok Phuket Hospital will also offer a number of activities open to the public starting at 8:30 am, on the third floor of its out-patient building in Samkong. The hospital expects as many as 1,000 kids to take part.

Phuket Technology College will be holding demonstrations of hair cutting, braiding, bead-threading and brooch-making.

WICHIT: At Laem Panwa, the Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet Command will be giving children and their families the chance to tour two of its ships – the Chao Phraya and the Songkhla. There will also be helicopter and parachuting displays.

At Sri Phuwanart Park, in front of the Baan Laem Chan Public Health Center, Wichit municipality will organize a number of activities taking place from 8.30 am until noon, including drawing and collage competitions, a poetry-writing contest, games for prizes and various performances from local schoolchildren.

KATHU: Prince of Songkhla University will be hosting fun activities and giving out food. Some 2,000 kids are expected to take part in the activities, which will be jointly organized by Kathu municipality.

RASSADA: Radio Thailand will be arranging activities in conjunction with Rassada municipality at the municipal offices on Rassadanusorn Rd in the Kuku area. Phuket Governor Preecha Ruangjan will preside over the opening activities at about 8 am.

Kids will get to try their hand at playing “young reporter” and learn how a radio studio operates. There will also be an anti-drug puppet show aimed at prathom 4-6 students and an exhibition and demonstration on how to make dolls in Baba or Peranakarn style unique to the Straits Chinese culture.

PATONG: Patong municipality celebrations will start at 8 pm with a parade from the south end of the beach road to Loma Park, where the opening address will be made by Mayor Pian Keesin at 8:40. The park will have no fewer than 15 stages and exhibitions, set up by various groups and agencies.

Performances by kids in municipal schools will start at 9 am, followed by free food for all kids starting at 11 am. The activities will end with a closing ceremony at 3 pm.

Jungceylon will host a number of special activities including a live appearance by the popular cartoon characters The 4 Angies, starting at 11:50 am. Kids will have a chance to have their pictures taken with the four stars of the popular TV show of the same name that appears on Thai TV Channel 3.

There will also be 20,000 baht in scholarship prizes up for grabs in the Boy & Girl challenge from 1 pm to 6 pm. Activities will take place in The Port zone of Jungceylon, next to Carrefour.

The fun gets underway at 11 pm, when Phuket Provincial Administration Organization President Paiboon Upatising will preside over the opening ceremony.

KARON: Karon Municipality in association with the Kata-Karon Hotel Business Association will host games and shows at Karon Park and along the beachfront near the traffic circle, from 8 am to noon. Free food will be provided by the Hotel Association and there will be lots of presents and prizes up for the kids.
