PHUKET CITY: This year’s Children’s Day falls on January 10 – tomorrow – with activities for the whole family all around the island.

The Phuket City municipality has arranged a host of events to take place at the Municipal Youth Health Center at Saphan Hin. Local schools and parents’ associations will have their own tents, where presents, sweets, ice cream and fruit will be handed out.

There will also be a radio-controlled plane and car display, a traffic-control demonstration, a dog show, an exhibition of marine animals, stage performances from local school children, an artillery display by the Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet, balloon animals and a variety of games.

Phuket Rajabaht University will offer free ice cream all day from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Each faculty will hold special activities and, as in years past, there will be a football competition, dancing and a wide variety of exhibitions, games and contests.

Bangkok Phuket Hospital will also offer a number of activities open to the public starting at 8:30 am, on the third floor of its out-patient building in Samkong. The hospital expects as many as 1,000 kids to take part.

Phuket Technology College will be holding demonstrations of hair cutting, braiding, bead-threading and brooch-making.

Performances by kids in municipal schools will start at 9 am, followed by free food for all kids starting at 11 am. The activities will end with a closing ceremony at 3 pm.
