Suspect arrested in Phetchaburi, over 1,900 stolen items seized

Police yesterday, September 10, arrested a Thai serial burglar in the central province of Phetchaburi in connection with at least 30 theft cases that caused damages exceeding 50 million baht.
Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Police officers sought cooperation from local police in Phetchaburi to track down a black Honda City ZX sedan driven by the suspected ringleader, later identified as 55 year old Jirateep. The car was travelling from Prachuap Khiri Khan towards Bangkok on Phetkasem Road.
Local officers monitored the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in Bang Khem sub-district, Khao Yoi district, Phetchaburi. The driver was confirmed as Jirateep, who was found to be the subject of several arrest warrants across the country.
Jirateep was reported to be a leading figure in a theft gang. He confessed to his crimes, admitting that he and his associates specifically targeted wealthy victims. The gang had previously been arrested and imprisoned multiple times, but resumed their activities after release.

According to ThaiRath, Jirateep was wanted in connection with at least 30 theft cases nationwide, causing losses of more than 50 million baht. In Prachuap Khiri Khan alone, Jirateep and his gang were responsible for at least 10 burglaries, stealing more than 1 million baht in gold, over 2 million baht in cash, and other valuables.
He has been charged under Section 335 of the Criminal Law (conspiring with more than two people to commit theft at night and using a vehicle to facilitate the crime). The penalty is imprisonment from one to five years and a fine of 20,000 to 100,000 baht.

Police also seized assets believed to have been stolen, including gold necklaces, Buddhist amulets, statues, electronic appliances, and watches. A total of 1,983 items worth an estimated 2 million baht were confiscated.
It has not yet been confirmed whether further investigations will be carried out into other suspects connected to Jirateep.
