Thai rights commission calls for immediate Gaza ceasefire
The Thai National Human Rights Commission (NHRCT) called for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict-ridden Gaza Strip. The commission’s plea comes amidst escalating violence which has resulted in the tragic loss of over 10,000 Palestinian civilian lives, with a significant proportion of victims being Arab women and children.
This crisis has also led to the displacement of an estimated one million individuals and critically impeded the delivery of necessary humanitarian aid to the Palestinian populace.
In their official statement, the NHRCT urgently implored all parties involved to address the dire human rights situation unfolding in the Gaza Strip. The commission stressed the necessity of immediate ceasefires in Gaza and permitting the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid, to safeguard civilians and provide essential supplies to the affected populace.
“It is imperative that all parties adhere to the international humanitarian law and ensure humane treatment of civilians, including those no longer participating in the hostilities, and an impartial investigation into alleged abuses be conducted to hold accountable those committing acts in contravention of applicable Geneva Conventions.”
The commission then reiterated the paramount importance of protecting the human rights of civilians during times of conflict, expressing hope for a swift peaceful solution to end the recurring cycle of violence against the people of Gaza.
In related news, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently revealed that Israeli forces discovered a command centre under Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip, along with a cache of bombs and weapons. This revelation has drawn criticism from Middle Eastern leaders, the United Nations (UN), and others, who have questioned the legitimacy of Israel’s claims about the command centre based on the evidence provided, reported Bangkok Post.
On the military front, Israeli forces seized control of Gaza’s harbour, eliminating 10 militants, clearing the adjoining buildings, and dismantling 10 tunnel shafts, according to their official military statement. Concurrently, reports from the southern Gaza Strip suggest that Israel dropped leaflets near Khan Younis, directing locals to evacuate.
This action has stoked fears of a potential expansion in Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas, which has been identified as a terrorist organisation by the United States and Europe.
The United States and Europe persist in backing Israel despite its ongoing violation of international law, perpetration of war crimes, and the daily dehumanisation and slaughter of innocent men, women and children.
