South Thailand: Pickup truck flips in the air, crashes into shop (video)
A pickup truck in the southern province of Chumphon lost control and flipped over, causing significant damage to a shop and its roof, though the driver sustained only minor injuries.
CCTV footage captured the shocking incident, which was shared on TikTok by user @tarn.dararat, highlighting the unpredictability of accidents.
Tarn, the TikTok user who originally posted the clip, spoke to a local news outlet yesterday, September 25. She explained that her mother usually opens their shop in Chumphon at 6am. Tarn and her family had left home to vote in a local election on Sunday morning, September 22.
The woman received a notification at 8.57am from her phone, which is linked to the CCTV cameras at home. The motion sensors had been triggered, prompting her to check the footage.
Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, Tarn discovered that a pickup truck had lost control due to the slippery road conditions and veered off course, flipping over and crashing into her home. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver had struggled to maintain control of the vehicle as it swerved.
Tarn was initially struck with fear and concern for anyone who might have been injured. She rushed back home to assess the damage, finding that the house had suffered significant structural damage.
The roof had been crushed by the truck, and various items, including water packs and plant pots, were destroyed. The shop also had a rented top-up machine from a company, which was damaged, bringing the total estimated damage to around 50,000 baht.
Later that day, Tarn met the driver at the police station. The driver, who had only sustained minor bruises on his arm and a small cut on his leg, was otherwise unharmed.
The police had arranged a meeting to discuss compensation for the damages. The driver’s vehicle was covered by first-class insurance, which would handle most of the costs, leaving him to pay only a fine for reckless driving. Recently, the driver has been actively repairing the damaged roof and cleaning up the affected areas of Tarn’s home.
The stretch of road leading to Tarn’s house, particularly a curve about 50 metres before it, is notorious for frequent accidents. However, Tarn never expected such an incident to occur right at her doorstep.
She expressed her hope that drivers would slow down during rainy conditions as the roads can become especially slippery, posing additional hazards even for the most alert drivers, reported KhaoSod.
“I hope drivers will reduce their speed when it rains because the roads can get very slippery. Even if we are fully alert, there can be unexpected challenges while driving.”
