No… Eating loads of holy basil won’t protect you from Covid-19

In case you were eating loads of holy basil to protect yourself from Covid-19… Stop. Sounds a bit crazy, but the Thai public health officials and the Anti Fake News Centre Thailand are warning people not to believe the claim spread online that eating 50 grams of fresh holy basil each day will boost immunity and protect against the coronavirus.

Actually, eating that much basil everyday will mess up the stomach. Not only will it cause a stomachache, but it can also cause a lot of farting, according to a post made by the centre.

“Even though some foreign research suggests that orientin in herbs can combat Covid-19 in the human body, these are just initial studies which need further investigation.”

Centre is asking the public not to spread the false claim.

Expecting a vaccine to protect you is is just as crazy but that’s what we are being told so why not Holy Basil? It might even work better.

What actually helps is a low carb/sugar diet (no rice, sweets, grains, junk food etc.), mainly organic food stuffs, healthy oils for cooking, an active healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise, maintaining a normal weight, and getting lots of vitamin D (and K2 to distribute excess Calcium to the skeleton), through supplements or sun exposure. Adapting these aforementioned life choices will boost your immune system and resistance to all kinds of infections, as well as diabetes and many other illnesses.

Boosting overall immunity, including refraining from smoking and drinking as well as practicing proper hygiene make sense. Although not a prophylactic, certainly couldn’t hurt.

There is in fact anecdotal evidence that Holy Basil extract (highly concentrated) addresses anxiety, stress, diabetes, high cholesterol, and many other conditions. That picture at the top of this article, however is NOT Holy Basil – what’s shown is Thai Basil.

There are hucksters claiming oregano oil as a preventative but of course the stuff in the grocery stores they say is no good, they have the purest which is grown at the top of a mountain.

Don’t they eat a lot of basil in Italy? Yeah, works like a charm. By the way, charms don’t work either. What these folks really need is a big, protective tattoo covering their foreheads to help me avoid them.
