Myanmar men arrested over body in taxi murder

PHUKET: Two Myanmar nationals have been arrested for allegedly killing a fellow citizen, whose body was found in a large bin in the boot of a taxi in Samut Sakhon’s Muang district.
Police identified the suspects as Chi San Maung, 36, and Ta Kyi, 27, while the victim was identified as 43-year old Tan Nya Buk.
Chi San Muang was arrested in Nonthaburi’s Bang Yai district, while |Ta Kyi was nabbed near a house where the victim was killed, police |said.
Taxi driver Uthai Petsikiew had alerted the authorities of the murder at 1am on Tuesday after finding the victim’s body in the boot of his car.
According to Uthai, the suspects had flagged him down at Soi Panunpon in Samut Sakhon’s Muang district and wanted to be taken to the Samaedum area.
Before boarding the cab, the suspects put a large bin in the taxi-cab’s boot.
The passengers then asked to get off at Rama II Road to allegedly make a phone call before disappearing. The cabbie then checked the bin and discovered a body in it.
Upon arrest, the police found the suspects in possession of the metal rods they had used to kill the victim. Police also found signs of fighting and blood in the victim’s room.
The suspects have apparently confessed to killing the man for reportedly embezzling the Bt17,000 they had paid for a work permit.
