Indonesian man wreaks havoc after Thai woman rejects him (video)
Police apprehended an Indonesian man yesterday in a rented room in the Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan province near Bangkok for causing a disturbance after being rejected by a Thai woman.
The Indonesian man, Iqbal, trashed the rented room in Samut Prakan while drunk. Phra Pradaeng Police Station officers were called to the scene to control the situation. Each officer carried an iron rod, typically used to control people with mental illness or drug users.
A video of the arrest operation was shared by Channel 8. A few officers were seen approaching Iqbal, restraining him on the ground and attempting to calm him. Thai police were heard shouting in Thai and English, “Calm down! Calm down! Easy! Easy!”
However, the foreign man ignored the police and responded angrily in his native language. Officers eventually calmed Iqbal and accompanied him to the police station for further legal proceedings.
Iqbal’s love interest, a 23 year old Thai woman named Karntida, revealed to Channel 8 that the fishing boat Iqbal worked on had docked at a pier near the scene a few days before the incident.
Iqbal began drinking beer the night before the incident and confessed his love to Karntida but she rejected his advances. In anger, he went to her friend’s room and trashed it.
The owner of the damaged room, Nira, told the media that it looked as if Iqbal was going to attack her but he did not. Besides destroying objects he also spat in her room. She and others could not control him and decided to seek help from the police.
Officers did not disclose the legal punishment issued against Iqbal. Based on similar previous cases, he faces two charges:
- Section 358 of the Criminal Law: causing damages to another person’s properties. The penalty is imprisonment of up to three years, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both.
- Section 378 of the Criminal Law: putting himself in a state of drunkenness by consumption of alcoholic beverage or other intoxicant substance, and causing troubles in public places. The penalty is a fine of up to 5,000 baht.
