Eighteen teens arrested after Thonburi shooting near hospital

Eighteen teenagers have been arrested following a shooting involving rival groups near a hospital in Thonburi. The confrontation reportedly began when the groups exchanged words, and one group, outnumbered, used a shotgun as retaliation.

An 18 year old vocational student sustained serious injuries from the altercation and was taken to Kasemrad Hospital in Bang Khae.

The incident occurred yesterday, March 9 at 2am when officers from Lak Song Police Station, together with the investigative unit and volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded to the scene. They found the injured student lying on the road with severe injuries from nine shotgun pellets in his back and ribcage.

Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau today ordered officers of Lak Song Police Station to investigate the case. They successfully apprehended 18 teenagers involved in the incident.

During the arrest, police seized eight motorcycles used in the crime, a homemade shotgun, and one 12-gauge shotgun shell, along with the clothing worn by the suspects during the incident.

The investigation revealed that the suspects had initially teased the victims, who were on two motorcycles, before pursuing them and causing injury.

The teenagers face charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition without a local registrar’s permission, carrying firearms and ammunition in public without urgent necessity, and discharging a firearm in a public area without valid reason.

The suspects, along with the evidence, have been handed over to investigators at Lak Song Police Station for further legal proceedings in coordination with multidisciplinary professionals, reported KhaoSod.

In other news, Police in Phichit have arrested a group operating an illegal money lending scheme with exorbitant interest rates, following an incident where they allegedly threatened a grilled chicken vendor with a firearm. The vendor provided video evidence of the threat, which occurred at her stall in front of Bueng Si Fai.
