Court confiscates vehicles after reckless driving caught on camera
Ratchaburi court ordered the confiscation of two vehicles, captured on a dash cam footage, driving recklessly, as both drivers were dangerously cutting each other off in a heated road rage exchange. The drivers have been fined, narrowly escaping prison times.
The incident occurred yesterday, July 15, on Phetkasem Road, heading towards Bangkok. A dashboard camera from a trailing vehicle captured the aggressive driving and the footage was subsequently posted on social media, prompting widespread comments and shares.
The Superintendent of Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station, Police Colonel Songwut Charoenwichayadej, directed an investigative team to identify the drivers. The investigation revealed that the pickup driver is from Samut Songkhram, while the van driver hails from Phetchaburi. Both individuals were brought in for questioning and have been formally charged.
The Ratchaburi Provincial Court deliberated on the case and found both drivers guilty of driving in a manner that disregarded the safety of others. The court sentenced them to one month in prison and a fine of 4,000 baht each.
However, the prison sentences were suspended for two years. Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of both vehicles involved in the incident, reported KhaoSod.
The confiscation of the vehicles sends a strong message about the severity of the reckless driving offence and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users. The court’s decision to suspend the prison sentences but retain the fines and vehicle confiscations reflects a balanced approach to punishment and deterrence.
