Burmese roti seller stabs Indian vendor after prime spot dispute (video)
Police yesterday arrested a Burmese roti seller for stabbing a fellow Indian roti vendor following a dispute over a prime location for their stalls outside a convenience store in the Sriracha district of Chon Buri.
Officers from Sriracha Police Station yesterday, August 20, were called to the car park of a convenience store to investigate the stabbing. The 47 year old Indian man, Ima Himahmad, was found crying out in pain near his roti motorcycle cart.
Himahmad sustained multiple stab wounds to his face, body, back, and left hand. Rescuers from the Sawang Theep Pracha Foundation provided him with first aid before rushing him to a nearby hospital.
The attacker was reported to be a Burmese roti vendor, later identified as Ton Hui. He fled the scene after the stabbing, leaving his roti motorcycle cart behind.
Police searched for Ton but initially could not find any trace of him. Officers then used a drone to search for the suspect and eventually found Ton hiding in a roadside forest, 500 metres from the scene. The knife used in the attack was seized from Ton.
Ton admitted to the violent attack, claiming that the Indian victim attempted to steal his customers. Ton stated that he regularly sold roti outside the convenience store but found that the Indian seller had taken over his prime location on the day of the incident.
Ton asked Himahmad to move from the area but Himahmad did not comply and even acted provocatively. A heated argument ensued, which quickly escalated into a stabbing.
Ton now faces two charges:
- Section 295 of the Criminal Law: assaulting another person until it causes both physical and mental harm. The penalty is imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.
- Section 371 of the Criminal Law: carrying a weapon in a public place without a reasonable reason. The penalty is a fine of up to 1,000 baht.
