PATONG: Many Australians have been known to have a drink or two every now and again and perhaps a lie-in as a result. The three young Aussies who performed a strange show for bystanders in front of the souvenir shops in Patong’s Thaweewong Rd earlier this month probably wished they’d stayed in bed. The scene was quite remarkable, even by Patong standards. The three men, their faces covered by bedsheets, were dancing in the street about 11 pm, wearing only 500-baht banknotes craftily wedged between their buttocks. People have been known to deposit money in strange places. Just how this rated on a scale of 1 to 10 in Patong, where a considerable amount of thought goes into lewd performances, became the subject of some debate. Were they pretending to be ATM machines? Did some bar girl provide them with change, in triplicate? While everyone pondered the cultural significance of the exotic Okker performance, police moved in to bring the curtain down on the show. Carl Sibar, 22, Jack Campole, 22, and Cable Price, 24, were given the opportunity to explain the inspiration for their impromptu artistry to Pol Lt Col Sa-nguan Muangtham, duty inspector at Kathu Police Station. The three Aussies enjoyed the hospitality of the local constabulary overnight and were charged 100 baht each for the privilege. It is not known whether the notes used in the previous night’s cheeky frolics changed hands in the transaction.
