Body of unidentified man without hands found in central Thailand
The owner of a sugarcane farm on Sunday discovered the body of a man with both hands severed in the central province of Nakhon Sawan. His identity remains under investigation as officers search for the dead man’s missing hands.
The sugarcane farm owner, 53 year old Boonyoung Phothong, told ThaiRath that he was walking on his farm as usual to check on his crops. He needed to urinate, so he searched for a spot hidden from view. While urinating, Boonyoung spotted a leg and head on the ground.
Boonyoung got closer to investigate and found the dead man. He reported the discovery to Phayuha Khiri Police Station officers. Boonyoung added that he believed the man was not a resident of the province.
The police report stated that the body was wrapped in a red sleeping bag. The deceased’s hands were severed and missing. There were no personal documents or belongings that could lead to his family or identity. Only a necklace with a Buddhist amulet was found with the body.
The body was transferred to the Police General Hospital for an autopsy. Officers encountered difficulties in identifying the man as he died at least two weeks before his discovery.
Police officers are now reviewing security cameras near the scene to identify both the deceased and the murderer. They are also coordinating with other police stations to determine if anyone reported a missing person.
The community leader, 50 year old Malee Phudtaraksa, revealed to ThaiRath that there are some CCTV cameras installed in a residential area about 5 kilometres away from where the body was found but added that the cameras may not have captured the incident.
Malee agreed with Boonyoung that the man was not a resident of the area, as there had been no missing person reports in the community.
In a related report last week, the body of an unidentified man with tattoos was found in the middle of a paddy field. Some of his fingers were missing, but it has not yet been confirmed whether they were severed or bitten off by monitor lizards in the area.
The man was not wearing shoes and did not have any personal documents with him. The body is now undergoing an autopsy to identify the deceased and the cause of death.
