CHON BURI: What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object? If a recent accident on the Sukhumvit Highway is anything to go by, the irresistible force loses. In this case the irresistible force was 20-year-old Anand Umpi, a member of the “Viron Kilo 10” gang that frequently ride their motorcycles wildly on the highway late at night, terrorizing the public, destroying property and creating a public nuisance. The gang continually manages to foil police attempts to chase them down. The immovable object was a large truck. Its driver told police that he had just pulled out onto the highway from a side road when he noticed in his rearview mirror the headlights of several speeding motorcycles bearing down on him. Moments later one of the bikes crashed into the back of the truck. The truck driver pulled over to check the damage to his vehicle, which was minor. After that he turned his attention to the motorcycle: it was totally demolished and its rider was lying dead not far away. Immovable Object 1, Irresistible Force 0.
