17 year old Thai girl narrowly escapes rape attempt by Bolt rider

A 17 year old Thai girl narrowly escaped a rape attempt by a Bolt motorcycle rider at a public park in the Bang Khun Thian neighbourhood of Bangkok on Tuesday, March 11, thanks to the help of another Bolt rider.

The Bolt rider who rescued the teenage victim took to social media to share the story and condemned the other rider for his appalling behaviour. He explained that the victim usually used his service, and she had his personal contact. However, she opted for another rider because she did not want to trouble him at night.

According to this rescuer, the girl booked the ride from Central Rama II shopping mall to her home in the Phetchakasem area at around 10pm. During the ride, the rider asked her if she was studying or working. She responded briefly and remained silent until the rider took her onto an unfamiliar route.

The rider claimed he would take her via a shortcut. However, he took her to the public park, which was very dark and quiet. He parked his motorcycle, and she dismounted and attempted to run away.

The rider approached her from behind, hugged her, and touched her breasts, before asking her for sex. She refused and managed to escape his clutches. She called her regular rider, who came to her aid. The suspect fled the scene after seeing her on the phone seeking help.

The victim revealed that the rider who provided the service was different from the profile shown in the application.

The motorcycle model and registration plate were also different. She suspected that the rider failed to register the account and opted to rent another person’s account to work.

Channel 3 interviewed officers at Tha Kham Police Station, who oversee the area, for further information. However, police insisted that the victim had not yet made a formal complaint.

Several women have previously reported sexual assaults and lewd behaviour by app-based riders. On March 10, a Thai woman took to social media to share that her sister was sexually assaulted by a Bolt driver after she refused to pay an additional fare.

The victim shared a video of the incident, showing the rider grabbing her arm, smelling it, and then touching her leg. Fortunately, she managed to flee from the vehicle.

Another female passenger reported in January that her Bolt motorcycle rider watched pornography throughout the journey and gave her a lewd smile before leaving. Luckily, the rider did not touch or harm her.
