A police investigation is intensifying as they uncover suspicious behaviour from a friend following the stabbing death of a 25 year old man at a traditional Thai event. The victim’s mother, still in shock, expresses her profound grief and disbelief over the tragic incident.

Police in Udon Thani are actively investigating the murder of Sawit, who was fatally stabbed during a traditional Molam performance at a local merit-making festival. The event took place on the road between Ban Khok and Sangkho in the Sangkho district late last night, October 9.

Police have brought in a 29 year old friend of the victim for further questioning after noticing several inconsistencies in his account. The friend claimed they were drinking together and that the victim was attacked by local youths but police are not fully convinced by his story and are seeking additional evidence.

On the same day, preparations were underway at the Ban Khok cemetery, where the family was waiting to receive Sawit’s body for traditional rites. The victim’s 60 year old mother revealed that her son had recently returned home after working in Bangkok with his older brother for a little over a month.

The night he was killed, villagers were hosting a merit-making festival and had hired a Molam band for the occasion. Sawit and his friends attended the event and stayed until midnight when a relative rushed to inform the family that Sawit had been attacked.

The mother rushed to the scene to find her son already deceased, covered in blood with stab wounds. Overwhelmed with shock, she could only cry.

The grieving mother expressed her hope that the police would quickly apprehend the perpetrator. She believes her son had no conflicts with anyone and may have been mistakenly targeted.

She questioned why someone would go to such lengths to take another person’s life. She admitted that her son was not perfect and had issues with drugs, yet she firmly stated that he did not deserve to be killed in such a manner, reported KhaoSod.

“Before he died, he playfully grabbed my chest and joked around. My daughter was about to sit in a hammock, but it broke. I wonder if it was an omen. We will keep his body in a shrine for three years before holding a cremation ceremony.”
