60-day “Covid” visa extension now allows stays until late September

Foreigners who are stuck in Thailand, either by choice or because they cannot return to their home country due to the pandemic, can now stay in the “Land of Smiles” until late September. The Thai Immigration Bureau recently announced that the deadline to apply for the 60-day “Covid” visa extension has been pushed from May 29 to July 29, now allowing stays up until late September.

It costs 1,900 baht for the 60-day extension. Foreigners now have until July 29 to apply. The extension can be granted if…

  • A foreigner cannot return to their home country due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • There are no return flights available.
  • The foreigner has a letter from their embassy requesting temporary stay.

Foreigners who are on visas with an end date approaching should visit their local immigration office before the visa expires to avoid overstay charges.

The Immigration Bureau has extended the deadline to apply for the extension several times since the it started offering the 60-day extensions late last year, and has typically made the announcements at the last minute.
