The investigation took a turn when Ielly’s aunt handed over her phone to the police. They discovered a video recorded on Ielly’s phone. The footage, filmed at a house in the Goiás region about 100 miles from Brasilia, showed Borges watching through a window and talking to Ielly, who was behind the camera. Moments later, Borges pointed a gun at Ielly and fired, causing her phone to drop.
Borges was charged with qualified homicide. He claimed he thought the gun was unloaded.
Further investigation revealed the couple had a troubled relationship. Ielly had confided in friends about alleged violence from Borges. “They advised her to end it,” a police officer told Globo.
