Chief Executive Officer of Jungceylon, Prawit Janyasittikul, mentioned that Jungceylon has been a staple of Phuket’s retail scene for over 18 years, spanning 200,000 square metres, serving 45,000 to 50,000 shoppers daily. In line with environmental goals, Jungceylon follows the 4R principles: Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and is moving towards an ‘Upcycle’ approach to maximising environmental value. This initiative emphasises reducing plastic bag usage and waste disposal among Thai and international tourists.

Campaigns such as Go Green Shopping @Jungceylon, Zero Bag Zero Waste, SAVE THE SEA and Love Phuket Save Phuket are launched to promote greener lifestyles while Jungceylon Art for Oceans is launched to showcase artworks of artists from Thailand and worldwide.

The ‘Upcycled Tote Bag’ project, which transforms used commercial banners into a chic eco-bag supports marine life preservation, with sales proceeds being donated to Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animals Rescue Center in Phuket.

ECO Premium Gift and many other collections, along with the Jungceylon Eco Creative Contest, encourage youths to harness their creativity to propose new ideas which turn waste into inventions. Jungceylon furthers the collaboration with Haadthip Public Company Limited by launching Coke Trash Lucky, which encourages better waste separation, promotes comprehensive waste management practices, and more.

Following the latest renovation, Jungceylon has allocated over 80% of green areas throughout the shopping centre and upgraded to Green Building Standard through the launch of ‘Jungceylon Energy Saving’ implementations such as:

  • Rooftop Solar Cell installation to mitigate heat and save 3% of annual electricity cost.
  • Wastewater treatment with a cooling system which recycles 3,000 cubic meters of water per month.
  • Waste disposal by separating waste types through ISO standards related to environmental protection, waste disposal and hygiene.
  • LED Motion Sensor replacement in some areas, reducing electricity bills by 85% annually.
  • Replacement in MDB & Chiller Plant areas which helps save 84% of electricity bills per year.

The use of heat-reflective exterior wall paint containing quality can reflect up to 96.7% of heat, which can lower building temperatures by up to 12 degrees Celsius and cut overall energy use by over 10 to 12%.

Jungceylon’s extensive efforts include participation in activities such as World Environment Day, World Ocean Day and Earth Hour, promoting lighting disconnection for one hour every year to encourage awareness of global warming among the public.

On the social front, a collaboration with local government and private agencies, schools, universities, independent organisations, as well as artists based in Phuket help build awareness towards environment preservation through activities such as supporting coral reef restoration, releasing aquatic animals to expand and conserve species, planting palm trees to help restore the tourism eco-system, and annual beach clean-ups.

In addition, CSR initiatives like space allocation for blood donation drives for patients in Phuket and nearby provinces are launched alongside Christmas Charity events for underprivileged children during Christmas and New Year with luncheon sessions, gifts giving and fund donations to foundations.

Events like the Vegetarian Festival and other events help foster income, workforces, and public health among people in the province, leading to enhanced quality of life and contributing to Phuket’s reputation as a quality tourist destination.

Jungceylon’s governance practices transparency and accountability, offering a Whistle Blowing Policy that enables employees, tenants, business partners, and customers to report any misconduct such as violation of laws and regulations, corruption, disclosure of confidential information without permission, and failure to declare conflicts of interest in business dealings.

Furthermore, internal inclusiveness allows staff to present innovative ideas and propose improvements that enhance both business operations and the company’s sustainability efforts. These initiatives are designed not only to ensure operational excellence and stability but also to support long-term social and environmental development, reinforcing Jungceylon’s commitment as well as providing shopping experiences under the ‘The Oasis of Shopping in Patong’ concept.
