Phuket Governor transferred, beach chairs left adrift

PHUKET: The Ministry of Interior has transferred Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong to Nonthaburi, effective next month.

As is standard, the transfer comes at the beginning of a new fiscal year for the government.

“I will make no further changes to the current situation with regards to beach management,” Governor Nisit told the Phuket Gazette today.

The lack of a firm, marketable plan with high season quickly approaching continues to leave the tourism industry up in the air (story here).

Taking over for Governor Nisit is someone already familiar with the multitude of complex issues facing the island: former Phuket Vice Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada.

Mr Chamroen was transferred out of Phuket in December last year to take up the post of governor of Nakhon Pathom (story here).
