Second arrest in Chloe Mitchell disappearance case, Antrim search continues
Following the disappearance of 21-year-old Chloe Mitchell from Ballymena in County Antrim, a second man has been arrested. The Police Service of Northern Ireland continues to search for Mitchell, who has been categorised as a high-risk missing person. She was last seen by her family on the evening of June 2 and was later captured on CCTV in the early hours of the next day. Police have been granted an additional 36 hours to question a 26-year-old man who was arrested in Lurgan on Friday. A 34-year-old man was also arrested on Saturday in Ballymena and is assisting with inquiries in police custody.
Police have stated that it is “completely out of character” for Mitchell not to be in contact with her family. Mitchell was last seen wearing a green and black Northface style jacket, a white t-shirt, leggings, and Nike trainers.
Officers are appealing directly to Mitchell to contact police, family, or friends. Mid and East Antrim District Commander, Superintendent Gillian Kearney, said: “Police are becoming increasingly concerned about Chloe’s safety and we have launched a criminal investigation into her disappearance. It is completely out of character for her to not be in contact with her family, who are being supported by specialist officers during this worrying time.”
The force is eager to speak with anyone who believes they may have seen Mitchell or anything unusual while travelling through the James Street area in Ballymena from 10pm on June 2 to 5.40pm on June 8. Police are also appealing for dashcam footage from this period.
