PM urges public servants to embrace Madani concept, tackle corruption
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on public servants in Selangor to embrace the Madani concept and be open to change in order to combat corruption and cronyism. Selangor is considered the fortress of the national unity government and a crucial element in Malaysia’s aspirations to become a developed country.
During a speech to Selangor civil servants, Anwar urged them to challenge irregularities in the system and prevent the wealthy from engaging in corrupt practices for personal gain. He highlighted the country’s RM1.5 trillion debt and the widening gap between the rich and the poor, emphasising the importance of taxing the wealthy, not the general public.
Anwar also addressed accusations that he had taken away Malay-Muslim rights and deprived people of their Haj pilgrimage rights, clarifying that he had only done so for the rich who abused the system. He expressed his commitment to bringing those who embezzled public funds to justice, regardless of their status or religious stature.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the stolen funds could have been utilised for public infrastructure such as improved schools, roads, and hospitals. Once these issues are addressed, the government can explore ways to increase civil service pay levels.
Anwar encouraged public servants to work efficiently and collaboratively to improve the system, adopting the Madani concept in their lives to bring about positive change and strengthen the economy. The gathering was attended by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shaari, Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
