Selangor state assembly not dissolving in June, confirms Menteri Besar

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari announced that the Selangor state assembly will not be dissolved in the coming weeks, despite June 19 marking his fifth year in office. He dispelled rumours that a dissolution would be called on that date during a meeting between Selangor public servants and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The Penang government, on the other hand, plans to dissolve its state legislative assembly on June 28, making way for state elections. If not dissolved earlier, the present term of the Penang state legislative assembly will automatically expire on August 2. Following the assembly’s dissolution, the state election must take place within 60 days.

In addition to Penang, Pakatan Harapan-held Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, as well as PAS-led Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, opted not to hold their state elections simultaneously with the 15th general election in November last year. The full term for the state legislative assembly in all these states will come to an end this year, necessitating elections to be held in 2022.
