Two escape serious injuries in Phuket storm
Two people have escaped injures after a big tree toppled by high winds landed on their moving car as they were travelling through Thalang on Saturday (June 16).
Thalang Police were notified of the incident on Pru Sompan Road at the entrance of Soi Baan Ja in Thapkrasattri, Thalang at 8.30pm. The fallen tree had blocked the road with the car underneath.
Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a damaged Honda Civic car. A big tree was still on top of the car. Police and locals were helping to cut the tree and move it off the car.
26 year old Piyanat Rueanngern, a Phuket airport staff, told police, “I was driving the car with my girlfriend heading from Phuket Town to Baan Pru Sompan. There were strong winds and heavy rain. The big tree fell down and hit my car while we were driving. Luckily we were not injured.”
Following the heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday nights, Phuket’s Governor, Norrapat Plodthong, is expressing his concerns about more flash flooding and is urging residents to take additional care and check radio and media for any possible problems.
